Tawang Monastery, located in the town of Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh, India, is the largest monastery in India and the second largest in the world after the Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet. Founded in the 17th century by Merak Lama Lodre Gyatso, it belongs to the Gelugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Perched at an altitude of about 10,000 feet in the Eastern Himalayas, the monastery offers breathtaking views of the Tawang River Valley.

It houses around 450 monks and serves as a center for Buddhist learning and meditation. The monastery’s grand assembly hall, beautiful murals, and a massive 28-foot-tall statue of Lord Buddha are its main attractions, making it a significant cultural and spiritual hub in the region.
